3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.
Ask, and it will be given to you; Seek, and you will find; Knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”
This verse has a special place in my memory because it was the verses my mother wrote down and placed in my backpack as I was sent off to London back in 2009. I remember opening up the note in my bottom bunk whenever I needed to be reminded that God was with me throughout my journey abroad. and it’s a good reminder tonight.
In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9
I love everything about this verse. It just illustrates how our Lord is sovereign and omniscient. He is an all-knowing God. He knows what our first steps are and what our last steps will be, and for me, that is so assuring and I find so much peace in it. We may design this blueprint we consider perfect for ourselves, but it is up to God to decide whether those plans go through. Although man may be convinced his ways are innocent, we can’t fool God, He can see our motives clearly, he can see if they are self-righteous or if our hearts are in it for His glory.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. The Lord works out everything for his own ends — even the wicked for a day of disaster.
